Advanced Search

The Advanced Search allows the end user to apply additional search filters such a date or category.

Search element

1. Drag and drop the Search element onto the page or template.

2. Configure the element and select the Advanced Search View. The following view will be presented:

3. Edit/configure:

Search Type

Select the appropriate option. Note: inflectional includes dictionary recognised variants of a word, for example run and ran.

Search Mode

Select either the default search settings or set for the page:

OR with exact phrase

Would return any items containing 'Search', or ' 'term' or 'Search term'.

OR

Would return any items containing 'Search' or 'term'.

AND

Would return any items containing 'Search' and 'term'.

Exact Phrase

Would return any items containing 'Search term'

Order Column

By default, Search Results are displayed by rank (closest match to the search term first0. Alternatively, results may be listed alphabetically (by Title) or by date.

Order Direction

Select the appropriate option.

Search Scope

Select the appropriate option.

Show Advanced Search Link

If required check to expose a button allowing the end user to undertake an advanced search.

Show 'Search within Results' link

If required, check to allow the end user to filter results by applying additional search criteria.

Show Results Full Screen

If the Search element is constrained within a column check to show results the full width of the page.

Show Search Box

Select whether to display a single keyword search field, or three separate 'any', 'all, or 'none' fields.

Show Content Filter

If required, check to allow the end user to specify what is being search for each item:

Show Date Filter

If required, check to allow the end user to specify a date range when searching.

Show Order By

If required check to allow the end user to order search results by Rank (relevance), Title or Date.

Use Query String

If required check to allow the Search to recognise any querystrings passed through.

Show Category Filter

If required, check to create a list of categories the end user may search within. For example:

To create a category search option click Add Category Selection:

Category Alias

Enter a friendly name for the category/categories.

Include child categories

If required check to include pages in child categories.

Must be in any/all/none

Add the categories which the alias will search within. Note that only pages will be searched.

Click Save Category Selection.

Preset Category Filter

Select to allow the user to select a category to search within, or preselect a set category for the search. Alternatively, select to allow the category to be selected by a querystring. This could be used if a link to the search page has been created.

Layout Template

By default Search Results are displayed by type (for example Pages, Assets, Directories). Alternatively, results may be displayed as a single list or by category.

Keyword Search Label

If required enter an alternate label for the keyword search field.

Minimum Keyword Length

If required enter a minimum number of characters for a search term.

Keyword Length Error Message

Enter an appropriate error message to be displayed if the search term is shorter that the minimum keyword length.

Filter By Category Label

If the category filter is enabled create an appropriate label for the category dropdown.

Filter By Category First Item

If the category filter is enabled create an appropriate label for the first item in the dropdown list.
