Vignettes are created using the Asset editor. To create a Vignette, a custom size is selected which is overlayed on the edited image. When the Asset is added to a page, and the selected Custom Size chosen the cut out vignette of the image is presented, rather then resizing the image.
To configure Image go to
- Content -> Pages -> Options -> Setup
- Content -> Assets -> Options -> Setup
- Setup -> Site
- System -> Configuration
Select System -> Assets -> Types -> Image:

Vignette
Select the Image size to used for the Vignette.
Auto launch image editor
If required, check to automatically launch the Image Editor - allowing the author to crop and resize an image - when a new Asset is uploaded.
